The circuit
The Circuit of the Americas (COTA) debuted in 2012 and soon became one of the highlights of the Formula One calendar for its dramatic natural elevation changes and the stunning facilities. COTA’s 20 turns are inspired by iconic parts of other circuits, such as Silverstone’s Maggots, Hockenheim’s Arena, and Istanbul’s turn 8. The uphill entrance to the hairpin turn 1 has made the unique corner a signature feature of this exciting circuit. Looking at the layout, the track has more fast corners than Spa-Francorchamps and more slow corners than the Hungaroring, the combination of which makes it a complex engineering challenge. The highest point on the lap is turn 1, which has a steep uphill approach and a blind entry. Sector 1 is characterised by five fast sweeping corners. Sector 2 contains a 1 km straight. Sector 3 has a combination of slow corners and a multi-apex right-hander, through which the drivers are exposed to forces of 4g for a period of five seconds.
